The main idea of the article is: Stated because it says in the title. Should the driving age be raised to 18?
The author’s purpose for writing this article is to inform the reader why people think the driving age should be raised to 18.
The author’s perspective in this article is objective because he is putting two reasons why the driving age should or shouldn’t be raised to 18.
The pattern of organization of the article is in chronological order because it tells you steps by steps why the age should be or shouldn’t be raised to 18.
The reason the author chose this pattern for the article is to make the article more understandable for the reader.
The text features included in the article are: The two reasons it helps me by giving some details to me about why or why not, examples helps me by getting me more into it.
This article is about (a summary in your own words) :
This article is about why the driving age should be raised to 18. One person called John D’Amico says it should be raised to 18 because on Dec. 29, 2005 four teenagers went out for a late-night drive and had a horrible accident. Two of the boys died they were still very young one was only 16 and the other one was 17 years old.
Also there was a person who says it should not be changed but he/her doesn’t really give any good supporting details so I don’t get into believing it so much, but the person did contrast a boy and girl into why boys should not drive at 16 and that girls should be allowed to drive at the age of 16 because men cause more accidents than women.
In my opinion I would say it should be changed to 18.
The significance (importance) of this article is to inform the reader why or why not the age should be raised to 18.
What I learned from this article is that more men crash than women.
What I liked about this article is that the author gives two reasons why or why not the age should be raised to 18.
What I did not like about it is that the person that says the age should not be changed does not give enough examples.
Who should read this article and why teenagers should read this article so they can be warned about the age change so they can have the right to drive at the age of 16, be more careful.
This article reminds me of (text-to-self) well I’m not 16 yet but I think the age should be raised to 18 because it is true that lots of teenagers think they are so cool so they speed and in a split second they crash.
(text-to-text) Last year I read an article about why the age should be increased to 18, and with that I am more convinced about the age going up to 18.
(text-to-world) Once I heard in the news that a teenage kid crashed in the street and he died. I would not allow teens to be driving in any place without adult supervision.
New vocabulary I learned Word Context Clues Meaning
1. Pedestrians-The rest were pedestrians, passengers, and people in cars that teenage drivers struck.- people walking In the street.
2. Burdensome- Raising the driving age may seem burdensome to parents and some busy teens, but we must remember that this is a proposal about safety, not convenience.- not good idea.
